There are many resources available to help you be certain of academic integrity.

  • RefWorks is software that allows you to easily compile, edit and format bibliographies using the citation style of your choice.

  • SafeAssign is a tool inside Blackboard/OWL which comparessubmitted assignments against a set of previously written papers to identify areas of overlap between the submission and existingworks. See 'SafeAssign' page for more information.
  • Assignment Calculator will give you a personalized timeline, an organization guide and links to help.

  • You Quote It, You Note It. Check out this fun, interactive tutorial created with Flash animation. It'll help you to avoid the pitfalls of plagiarism while researching and writing your term papers. The tutorial takes about 10 minutes.

    Ryerson University has created five short animated films exploring academic integrity issues. In episode one, for example, Allison has left her psychology assignment too late and now it's down to the crunch. Is cribbing from her roommate's essay a temptation too irresistible to turn down? Other episodes explore the use of Turnitin.com, the consequences of cheating during exams, and the importance of planning and independent work.   • Researching Ethically. The interactive tutorial explains what academic integrity is and describes the Dalhousie discipline process, what resources are available and includes a quiz.

  • What do other cultures say about the importance of referencing? 11 short videos voice the viewpoints of different cultures
  • "A Plagiarism Carol" is a video presented by the University of Bergin in Norway.  Taken from the famous 1843 holiday classic "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens, this video tells the tale of a young student visited by the Ghost of Plagiarism when he attempts to make up lost time in writing a paper by cutting and pasting information from a website.  Citing quotes and scenes taken from various movies along the way, this very well produced and highly entertaining video very clearly demonstrates the serious consequences of committing an academic offence, as well as the rewards of choosing not to offend.
